Leveling The Playing Field & Gear4Good Are Combating Inequity in Youth Sports

The privatization of youth sports has led to a decline in participation among kids living in under resourced communities across the United States. In 2015, about one in three parents (32%) from households making less than $50,000 a year told researchers that sports cost too much and make it difficult for their child to continue participating. That is compared to the one in six parents (16%) from households making $50,000 a year or more who said the same. To learn more on the inequities in youth sports visit the Aspen Institute Project Play page.

Every year, we distribute over $5 million worth of sporting goods to schools, youth programs, and teams that work to provide an affordable and accessible sports program during and after school. We support around 1,300 unique schools and programs annually!
